CVA 15-1 proves it is ELITE
CVA’s 15-1 team finished their season at the 2017 Girls Junior National Volleyball Championships on June 29th at the Minneapolis Convention Center. This is the third consecutive year that the core of this team has qualified for the national tournament.
The girls had momentum on their side at nationals. CVA opened the tournament with three wins on the first day, including a victory over the #1 seed in their pool. During the second and third days of pool-play, CVA suffered one loss but celebrated two additional wins, including a defeat over the final undefeated team in their pool.
CVA swept the “Challenge Match,” wiping out their opponents and clinching a spot in the championship bracket.
On day 4, the season came to a close with a tough loss in three sets during the quarter finals, and the girls walked away with a 5th Place finish overall.
We have many reasons to be proud...
From the Cincinnati area, only eleven high school-age teams received bids to nationals this year. However, CVA is the only team to place in the top five.
Three CVA players, Julia Gardon, Elizabeth Hoerlein, and Mackenzie Ricketts received several inquiries from major Division 1 college volleyball programs.
In addition, 15 year-old outside hitter Julia Gardon was named to the Junior National All-Tournament team, earning recognition for her performance on the court during the tournament. Out of 700 players in this particular age group and division, only fifteen girls are chosen for the All-Tournament team. This year, Julia is the only volleyball player (of any age group) from Cincinnati to be selected for this team.
Congrats on a great season girls!
